One of my most effective methods is creating educational channels in the Telegram app for my students. These channels are divided by the grades I teach. In this article, I will discuss how my individual resilient teaching methods help improve learning and protect against professional burnout.

Creating Educational Channels in Telegram

The main goal of creating my Telegram channels is to enhance and simplify the learning of English. I develop and publish diverse content that helps students dive deeper into the language and practice it in an engaging way. My channels include:

Video Lessons: I record and upload videos where I explain complex grammar topics, discuss new words and phrases, and offer practical exercises.

Games on the Wordwall Platform: Interactive games help students reinforce their knowledge in a playful manner, making the learning process more interesting and motivating.

Articles and Riddles: I select and create articles on various topics, as well as include riddles that develop thinking skills and expand vocabulary.

Audio Lessons: To improve listening skills, I record audio lessons that students can listen to at their convenience.

Supporting Resilience in Learning

This approach to teaching allows me to create a dynamic and interactive educational environment. Students can study at a time and pace that is convenient for them, which contributes to a deeper understanding of the material. Regular content updates and material variety maintain interest in language learning, which is especially important for supporting resilience in education.

Protection Against Professional Burnout

For me, as a teacher, creating these channels also has significant advantages. Firstly, it allows me to systematize and structure materials, simplifying lesson preparation. Secondly, the opportunity to experiment with new forms of material presentation stimulates the creative process and maintains my professional interest. Thirdly, positive feedback and student progress provide additional motivation and job satisfaction, helping to prevent professional burnout.

Conclusion

Using Telegram channels for teaching English has become an important part of my teaching practice. This method not only improves the learning process for my students but also supports my own resilience and professional development. In a constantly changing educational world, it is important to seek and implement new approaches that help both students and teachers stay motivated and effective.

By Natalia V.

Building Students' Resilience with Comics

Using Comics as a Wonderful Activity for Building Students' Resilience

I'd love to share with you a wonderful activity that builds students' resilience: a series of great videos based on comics that Jennifer shared with us during the workshops.

You can organize your lessons in different ways. I prefer to incorporate all aspects of language learning, such as listening, reading, writing, speaking, and the use of grammar and vocabulary. Here is the plan for my last lesson using the video "Ring! Yo?" by Chris Raschka:

Front work:

Pre-listening activity without the text.

Analysis of meanings (discussing what the text is about).

Individual work:

Listening and recording what was heard.

Front work:

Viewing the script, checking meanings, and writing down words.

Reading with repetition of intonation after the author.

Pair/group work:

Adding words to the missing character.

Reading with expression for the class; the class must guess the situation.

Front work:

Viewing the author's dialogue and discussing the morality, internal emotions of the characters, and resolving the situation.

Reading aloud without audio.

By using various forms of activities and engaging all students, even weaker students can find success. We can also use videos with different themes that encourage our students to think and speak about various topics. This is why I believe such activities build resilience in students.

I use this approach when students lose motivation for learning English or feel tired after a long semester. I can add vocabulary or grammar materials to focus on specific needs, such as weak areas or moral aspects of the story, depending on the class and the challenges we face.

Today, it is crucial to provide children not only with a wealth of knowledge but also to ensure their personal and cognitive development, equipping them with essential skills such as resilience—a necessary ability in the modern world.

The use of teaching materials, including visual aids, audio, video materials, and other tools in lessons, often falls short in achieving these educational goals. To address this challenge, I employ various approaches and methods in my teaching. One of them is the system-activity approach since it is this that contributes to the achievement of all goals at once when learning English. The system-activity approach allows taking into account the age-specific characteristics of primary school children. At this developmental stage, children are highly curious and explorative; so in my lessons I incorporate various game situations, songs, dialogues and a variety of interactive activities. Additionally, participation in competitions and extracurricular activities offers opportunities for students to apply their acquired knowledge, which allows them to be successful and even weak students to shine.

One of the most favorite games among children in my class is "Whispers."

Instructions:

Organize children into 3-5 groups of at least six members. Show a flashcard with an image, word, or sentence, or say it to the first child in each group.

This child whispers the word to the next child, continuing until it reaches the final child.

The final child announces the word aloud.

Optionally, the class can repeat the word/sentence in unison, translate it, or act it out.

You can modify this game in different ways, using specific word or grammar structures. I love this short game because children can move while simultaneously practicing speaking, listening or even reading and they interact with each other.

I believe that it is a technology of the activity-based teaching method that is capable of not only developing cognitive needs and forming the necessary skills in students, but also cultivating their resilience.

In the contemporary landscape of education, teachers grapple with numerous challenges in their professional lives, leading to prevalent issues such as stress, apathy, and burnout.

A survey conducted within our training program group revealed a universal reality – every teacher is currently working amidst emotionally taxing conditions. Acknowledging the complexities of these challenges, I have come to the realization that while it may not always be feasible to resolve every issue, changing one's attitude towards these challenges is paramount for teachers aiming to avoid stress, apathy, and burnout. Resilience is the key, particularly for those who wish to endure and thrive in the demanding conditions of modern society while staying dedicated to their profession.

One invaluable tool for enhancing resilience is the wellness wheel. This tool facilitates a comprehensive analysis of various life domains, identifying the most vulnerable areas that require attention. Recognizing the issue is half the battle won, and the wellness wheel simplifies this process. It involves a straightforward series of questions, culminating in a clear presentation of the results.

From a personal perspective, I have found that the first step toward building resilience was cultivating an awareness of the significance of balance across all aspects of life.

In conclusion, the wellness wheel assessment emerges as a practical and accessible means for teachers to bolster their resilience. By addressing vulnerabilities and fostering a balanced approach to life, educators can not only navigate the challenges of their profession but also cultivate resilience as individuals.
